Josh McKay

How did your career start out?

I did not have a specific industry that I wanted to work in, but I knew I wanted to be involved in logistics and operations. And I wanted to be able to have an impact on wherever I ended up and not be "just another number". 

My job at Gas Equipment Company (GEC, ed.) was my first job – I started just 2 weeks after I graduated from Texas A&M!

What is your role today?

Originally, I strictly focused on the purchasing aspect of the company. Now, in addition to that, I help sales with large customer accounts and expanding our business into new markets, as well as work with marketing on promotions. All while focusing internally on our warehouse and day-to-day operations to make sure GEC is running as smoothly as possible to support our customers. I also provide support for our operations within MAKEEN Gas Equipment as a whole, with a primary focus on growing our business in both North and South America.

Since I started working here, I have learned a lot about the propane industry, as well as the anhydrous ammonia and industrial gas industries that we deal in. Knowing nothing except to use propane for my grill before starting at GEC, I’ve been learning more about all our industries and the processes and equipment needed for all sorts of gases. It doesn’t matter how long you have been in these industries as I seem to be learning something new every day!

What are the most important skills in your position?

Multitasking, to be always focused on constant improvement and to roll with the punches. There is no such thing as having nothing to do in this position. You are either working with manufacturers, warehouses or the sales team on new deals and issues – as well as looking towards the future on how we can be better. Since there are so many moving parts, you have to stay on your toes and adapt as things happen.

What do you like about your work?

I greatly enjoy the people I work with and the industry as a whole. Everyone in this industry is so supportive and helpful regardless your level of experience or even who you work for. Working at GEC feels like one big family.

Since GEC became a part of MAKEEN Energy, our family has grown internationally, and it is great to see that MAKEEN Energy has that same family feel regardless of what country the person I’m talking to is in.
